INCLUDED IN SYMPOSIUM REGISTRATION
Thursday Night Barbeque
Date: | Thursday, July 8 |
Time: | End of proceedings |
Place: | Bogert Park |
All attendees and registered guests are invited to a Montana-style "banquet" at
Bogert Park, located about a mile northeast of the MSU campus. Entertainment
will be provided by the Spontaneous Combustibles, a local improvizational
comedy troupe. Bussing to and from Bogert Park will be available, but for those of
you who can't get enough of Montana's outdoor lifestyle, we recommend walking along
Linear Park, a very nice trail which goes from just off of campus directly to the
park.
OFFERED IN ADDITION TO SYMPOSIUM REGISTRATION
Yellowstone Park Excursion
Date: | Sunday, July 11 |
Time: | 7 AM - 7 PM |
Place: | Busses will meet in front of SUB |
Busses will depart at 7:00 AM and will travel through the Paradise Valley to the
north entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Breakfast will be provided en route.
The first stop will be Mammoth Hot Springs, famed for its steaming, multicolored
mineral terraces. Traveling next to Norris Geyser Basin, the tour will visit
Yellowstone's most active thermal area where numerous geysers, fumaroles (steam
vents), and hot springs display their unique beauty. Boxed lunches will be
provided at the next stop: Old Faithful, Yellowstone's best-known geyser. The
next of Yellowstone's natural wonders is the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone,
where you will have extrordinary views of the canyon and its waterfalls from
Artist Point and the Upper Falls. Finally, the tour will travel over scenic
Dunraven Pass and on to Tower Falls for a brief visit before exiting Yellowstone,
once again by the north gate. Busses will return to MSU at approximately 7:00 PM.
You may sign up for this excursion on the
Registration Page. The cost is $70.00 per person.
Tour for Non-Participant Guests
Date: | Friday, July 9 |
Time: | TBA |
Place: | TBA |
On Friday, July 9 we have arranged for an optional historic tour of the
Gallatin Valley area. The day will include a visit to the Madison
Buffalo Jump, Missouri Headwaters Sate Park and the Lewis & Clark
Caverns. The Madison Buffalo Jump is a site where local Indian tribes
used to stampede bison over a cliff, a means of hunting, before the era
when horses reached this area. Missouri Headwaters State Park in Three
Forks, Montana was established to commemorate Lewis & Clark's discovery
of the confluence of the Jefferson, Madison and Gallatin rivers forming
the Missouri River. The Lewis & Clark caverns (which have absolutely
nothing to do with the Lewis and Clark Expedition!) are the largest
known limestone caverns in the Northwest. Upon arrival at the caverns
you will begin your approximately two-hour tour of these spectacular
caves. As the caves are naturally air-conditioned, please bring a
sweater or jacket. Comfortable walking shoes are also advised as there
is considerable walking involved in the tour. This is an all-day outing
and lunch will be provided.
You may sign up for this excursion on the
Registration Page. The cost is $39.00 per person.
