TRAVEL ASSISTANCE

Airline Reservations

Montana Travel, the official travel agency of IAU Symposium 195, has reserved a block of airline seats on Delta and Northwest Airlines. Reservations can be made by contacting Montana Travel at

As the gateway to Yellowstone National Park, Bozeman is especially popular with tourists in July. In addition, ours is not the only conference that Montana State University is hosting the week of July 5, so airport traffic will be at capacity. Therefore, we STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you make your reservations AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Montana Travel will only take reservations until MAY 1, 1999, and due to LIMITED SEATING, openings may run out before this date. We cannot overemphasize the importance of MAKING YOUR RESERVATIONS EARLY.

Car Rentals

In addition to airline reservations, discounted car rentals can be secured through Montana Travel. Bozeman offers little in the way of public transportation, so if you plan to do any sight-seeing, you will need to rent a car. For those of you who make reservations into Billings (about 150 miles from Bozeman), no transportation will be provided from Billings to Bozeman. However, Montana Travel will be happy to assist in renting a car. (Actually, the drive is quite lovely and takes less than three hours.)

IAU Travel Grants

IAU travel grants are available on a limited basis to attend IAU Symposium 195. The grant covers the minimum travel expense. In addition, you may apply for accommodation, etc. Since the total amount awarded is very small, we encourage those who have means to do so to find other sources. However, if you wish to apply for this grant, the application form can be obtained from http://www.iau.org/travappl.html. The application deadline is March 1, 1999. Applications should be sent to:

S. Tsuruta
Physics Department EPS 264
Montana State University
Bozeman, Montana 59717
U.S.A.
FAX Number: +1 406 994 4452

The selection of the awardees will be made by the SOC (Scientific Organizing Committee) of IAU Symposium 195, and the results will be announced in early April.
