Near space total eclipse solar science

Advisor: Angela Des Jardins

Approximately 60 student teams from colleges and universities across the country will conduct high altitude balloon flights from along the 8/21/2017 total eclipse path, sending live video and images from near space to the NASA website. In addition to the live footage of the sun and the eclipse shadow on Earth, higher-resolution images will be stored on-board the balloon payloads (recovered shortly after the eclipse).

This project will explore possible science questions allowed by the ~1.5 hours of eclipsed sun footage from 80,000 - 100,000 feet in altitude (above 99% of the atmosphere) and how best to set up the student teams to assist with answering those questions.
