July 30 - July 31
I met with Dr. Qiu Monday morning and looked through almost all of the YYYYMMDD_rec_final.eps files, even though 3 of the events kept giving me errors. I managed to sort out 2 of the events, and was waiting for an email back from Lilly about the third one (which was one of her events). I fixed the third event Tuesday morning. I then used a new program that analyzes correlations to try and see how well different aspects of the rec files correlated. I'm thoroughly immersed in the analysis portion of my project now and am spending the rest of the day making graphs to try and see some sort of correlation between time delays and peak spectral indexes.
August 1 - August 3
I've been continuing polishing up the data for the YYYYMMDD_rec_final.eps finals. Dr. Qiu added a few sentences to the code so I've rerun them. For the data analysis portion, I've gotten some graphs relating time delay, peak spectral index, and peak counts. I'm currently working on code to make a histogram of high shear events and low shear events for spectral indexes. I have also started an outline of my final presentation which I'll show Dr. Qiu next Tuesday when we meet since the final presentations are on Wednesday.
Weekend
On Wednesday, Phillip, Nicole, and I went to the food festival on Main Street for dinner. There were tons of food trucks lining Main Street and three different stands all playing music. Nicole and I got Indian food (she really liked it!)and ice cream from the Genuine Ice Cream Co. truck before listening to some music by a band called Bluebelly Junction, or something along those lines. They played a bunch of oldies, like Johnny B. Goode. It was really sweet.
On Friday, a bunch of the solar physics students went to Watanabe's. That was also the first resturaunt we'd really gone out to as a group back in the beginning of the summer, so it was kind of bittersweet going there at the end too. Moving onto Saturday, Courtney and I went to Storm Castle cafe for brunch. Other than the sweet pea festival (which costed $20 for admission and deterred me from going), there was a free festival called Slam in Bogart Park. We ended up going there and getting italian ices. Saturday night I cooked Japanese style curry.
Sunday was a quiet day, and I went on a long walk around Bozeman for what might be the last time. I went down the mountain to main street path and up Peet's Hill. To be honest, I'll probably miss Peet's Hill the most out of everything. It has beautiful views of the mountains and never disappoints, even if it is a bit windy up there! Afterwards, I got bubble tea at Townshend Tea. For dinner, a bunch of the solar physics students went to Bridger Brewing and got pizza. Although I was stuffed I also got a triple berry sundae which was made up of Wilcoxson's vanilla ice cream, granola, berry compote, and chocolate drizzle. It was incredible.
