REU 2022 Pre-arrival Tasks


1. Sign up the (a) followship appointment form, (b) W9 form, (c) consent form, and (d) the Montana State University Direct Deposit Authorization form, if you choose to directly deposit your stipend (starting from the second paycheck) to your bank. These forms will come from DocuSign by Stephanie.

2. Apply for the MSU Summer Housing and sign the Residence Life Summer Contract following the instructions sent by email, which also includes a code for our group.

3. Send by email to your coordinator the following information required by the housing department: (a) your date of birth; (b) your email address to be used in the summer; (c) your cell phone number; (d) your arrival and departure dates (dorm check-in and out dates).

4. Set up your travel arrangements.

5. For those of you who will drive to MSU, a parking permit will be issued. For that purpose, send by email to your coordinator the following information: (a) Name (b) License Plate Number (c) License Plate State (d) Vehicle Make (e) Vehicle Model (f) Vehicle Year (g) Vehicle Color; (h) Email; (i) Phone.

6. Set up medical insurance.

7. Join the MSU Solar Physics REU facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/groups/10212519714/

8. Answer the following questions regarding your computer and experiences with programing; reply to your coordinator and Dr. Keiji Yoshimura.

(a) Are you bringing your computer with you for your work?
(b) [if yes] What is the OS on your computer? Windows? Mac? Linux?
(c) Have you ever used IDL language? If yes, how would you describe your experience/level of programming in IDL? For example, how long have you used the language, and did you just run the programs that had been written by other people, or did you write your own programs (for what purpose?) in IDL?
(d) if you have not used IDL before, have you ever programmed in C or Fortran or Python or other languages and for how long? How would you describe your experience/level of programming in these languages?
