More information on Image Processing Programs

In order to complete this lesson, you need to download a software program for image processing. These are programs separate from your WWW browswer. If you have an older machine, you will probably even need to quit all other programs except for the image processing program. To start the program, double click on its icon after you have downloaded the installer program and executed it.

For the PC, the image processing program you need is called ImagePC. Go to www.scioncorp.com and select ImagePC at the bottom of the page to download the installer program.

For the MAC, the image processing program you need is called NIH Image. Go to http://rsb.info.nih.gov/nih-image/download.html at the middle of the page to download the installer program.

More information on Graphic Conversion Programs

In order to process images with your newly acquired image processing program (see above), you need to convert the images from JPG or GIF to TIF . To do this, you need to download a graphic converter program.

After you have downloaded the installer and executed it, you can convert images by starting the graphic conversion program and selecting OPEN from the FILE pull-down menu. Then, you can select SAVE AS from the EDIT pull-down menu and change the file type of any graphic. Remember that you need to use GIF or JPG when viewing a graphic with a WWW browser -- use TIF or PICT when you want to view an image using an image processing program.
