Examples of false color images of the sun

The X-Ray Sun on 2 March 1992

When displaying the data from the Soft X-ray Telescope we can choose whatever color or combination of colors that we want. These are known as false color images. The X-rays coming from the Sun have energies which are much higher than those of normal visible light and so the rainbow of colors that we are used to with visible light does not apply.
