How to get set up to use RHESSI data analysis software at MSU 1) Edit the setenv SSW_INSTR line in your .cshrc file to include "HESSI XRAY SPEX". For my example, mine looks like: setenv SSW_INSTR "SXT BCS XRAY HESSI SPEX HXT EIT CDS TRACE" Make sure you DON'T have LASCO there. Some of the LASCO programs have the same names as RHESSI software and cause problems. 2) At this point, you will be able to use RHESSI software using data that exsists in /disk/data/rhessi. If you would like to analyze data that does not exisit there, you must download the data* from: http://hesperia.gsfc.nasa.gov/hessidata *Keep in mind that in order for the software to run correctly (and quickly) you will need not only the data file from the time of the flare, but also from before the flare. This data is used for background subtraction. 3) To start the RHESSI software, simply type hessi at an IDL prompt. From here, you can use the GUI or command line. See Brian Dennis's help page for aid in getting going: http://herperia.gsfc.nasa.gov/~dennis/imaging/first_steps.htm 4) Other helpful sites: http://herperia.gsfc.nasa.gov/hessidatacenter/ http://herperia.gsfc.nasa.gov/hessi// http://sprg.ssl.berkeley.edu/~tohban/browser/
