(orange), they hold the

gas down and

corona is
bright. In the

polar
regions, where no

significant
amounts of

magnetic
field emerge,
|
|
the corona is
dark
|
|
because it
can expand
|
|
freely (red arrows) to
|
|
form the
solar wind.
