IDL TUTORIAL

Michael Hahn

I'm an undergraduate physics major at Carnegie Mellon University. I'm from Northford Connecticut.I spent this summer in Bozeman Montana with the REU program of the Montana State University Solar Physics Group. I worked with Richard Canfield, and Dibyendu Nandi On a project that was related to last years work. This year we wanted to take a less statistical approach with regard to the flares and see whether flares occur in areas where the gradient in alpha (a parameter related to the twist in the magnetic field) is high, and whether such gradients get smoothed out after flares. In a more statistical related study we looked at whether relaxation of the sort detected last year contributed to the sun's x-ray luminosity, which would be an indication of heating.
