Hello! My name is Chris Lowder. I'm working this summer at the Montana State
University Solar Physics group, doing a research project. This project falls
under the NSF's Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. It
provides a unique experience for students to gain actual research experience at
the university level that is normally not available to undergraduate students.
In my case, it's been an invaluable tool that's cemented my interest in
astronomy, and heightened my enthusiasm about research and grad school.
I'm working this summer under Dr. Dibyendu Nandi and Dr. Richard Canfield on a solar physics project involving the sun's magnetic fields. Currently I'm working with comparing techniques to resolve the 180-degree ambiguity found in vector magnetograms. |
