My name is Karen Wilson and I am a senior at the University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou). I'm working on graduating with a B.S. in Physics. Ever since my first introduction to astronomy course in college, I have been interested in astronomy and astrophysics. During the Summer of 2003 I had the pleasure of working with Dr. David McKenzie and Dr. Robert Leamon studying magnetic clouds and their progenitors. I have been fortunate enough to continue my work with Dr. McKenzie during the Summer of 2004; focusing on the magnetic structures of the progenitors. During the fall of 2003 I had the amazing opportunity to studying astrophysics in more rigorous detail through the University of Columbia at the Biosphere 2 Center in Arizona. At Biosphere, we were also given the opportunity to complete our own research project. I studied the light curves of variable pulsating stars using Biosphere 2's Ritchey-Chretien 24" telescope using an Apogee AP7 back illuminated CCD camera. It was an unbelievable experience and I wish that other students could have the same opportunity. Unfortunately, after the fall 2003 semester, Columbia University pulled out of Biosphere and now only tours are given at the facility. Below you will find links to my research, pictures and some of my favorite websites. Enjoy!
