Questions regarding the second paper by Cranmer et al. Note: These are not assigments, just items to ponder while reading the papers, and issues to discuss in the class. Don't feel inadequate if you cannot answer them on your own! In this paper data analysis, empirical modelling, and interpretation are very much interweaved. It helps to separate them. 1. What are the five (or six) basic UVCS observations presented here? 2. What physical parameters (as a function of radius) do the authors try to determine from their data? Why can the latter three only be constrained? 3. What are the physical mechanisms used to link the data to the output parameters? 4. Why do the authors think high frequency (versus low frequency) waves are needed to explain their results? What is the evidence for those waves?
