Questions regarding the papers by Foley et al. and Hara et al. Note: These are not assigments, just items to ponder while reading the papers, and issues to discuss in the class. Don't feel inadequate if you cannot answer them on your own..... Foley et al. 1. Given the high level of estimated scattered light, and the large uncertainty therein; how can one be sure there is any Soft X-ray signal from coronal holes at all? Think of a simple common-sense way to show from the data there is such a signal. 2. What is wrong with equation (1)? What is the correct version? Hara et al. 1. (Piece of cake for Charles). If the coronal hole temperature is of the order of 1.4 MK as other work indicates, then the EM required to match Hara's eclipse observations is unreasonably large. Could different values for ion abundances than used by Hara reconcile Hara' results with Skylab results?
