FLARE CATALOG TEMPLATE, PERL PROGRAMS, INPUT AND OUTPUT SAMPLES

  • Please consider automatic input of your observatory's observing log information into the Max Millennium Flare Catalog, as an alternative to manual input using the web form. An important advantage of this procedure is that we have written software to automatically determine the NOAA active region numbers and GOES events within your specified field of view, given your observing log information.

  • For automatic input of your observatory's observing log information into the Flare catalog, write a script to produce a suitably named file in the format of the Flare Catalog input template and put it in a directory accessible by FTP. Send to Dominic Zarro the name and address of that directory, and he will pick it by ftp on an automated daily basis whenever a new file is placed there.

  • There are many ways to write a script to produce automatically the input file following the Flare Catalog input template. If you already produce a text observing log at your observatory, you may wish to automatically process this log. A sample of such an approach using a perl script is linked here and is available by anonymous FTP to ftp://solar.physics.montana.edu/pub/canfield/perl_script.
