David E. McKenzie
David McKenzie started work in coronal physics with analysis of light
curves from flare stars and the Sun, primarily focusing on observational
signatures of coronal heating. This resulted in an M.S. thesis in 1993
(heating of stellar coronae) and a Ph.D. thesis in 1997 (solar corona).
Dr. McKenzie was a member of the Yohkoh operations team, an
experience which facilitated collaboration with colleagues from Japanese,
American, and European institutions in the analysis of solar X-ray data.
Dr. McKenzie also was a member of the extremely successful Yohkoh Public
Outreach Project, a web-based public outreach and information
education effort fostered as a collaboration between Montana State
University and Lockheed Martin Solar and Astrophysics Laboratory, under a
NASA/IITA Cooperative Agreement. Currently Dr. McKenzie is a
Co-Investigator on the
X-Ray Telescope
for the Hinode
mission, and on the
Atmospheric Imaging
Assembly for the Solar Dynamics Observatory. His main research interests are flow fields near the sites
of solar flares, magnetic reconnection, coronal mass ejections & space weather, and education &
public outreach.
