It's
hard to write briefly about yourself. Hard because ideally
what
you want to do is make an impression upon your hypothetical reader,
such that after reading what you write, the reader will have the
sensation that he, or she, actually knows you. But hard as it
is, here is a small introduction to myself:
I was born in Colombia, a country full of contrasts, a country with
high mountains and deep valleys, vast naked plains and thick
jungles, deep seas and large rivers, a country of love, a
country of
war. My hometown is Bogotá, a big city of
perpetual spring (except when it rains), of progress and culture, a
city of sunsets;
but I also have called another city my home: Cali, a city of
perpetual summer, of sugar cane and salsa, a city of sunrises.
My main interests are people and all that is part of their
identity
(language, traditions, history, religion, cuisine, music, etc.), books
(mainly fiction but also history), movies (in general), games (board
and
video games), music (playing, listening and dancing) and knowledge
(physics is my area of expertise but all branches of human knowledge
fascinate me). My favorite activities are learning and
teaching.
Currently I'm living in Bozeman, Montana in the United States, where
I'm a PhD candidate on Solar
Physics in the Montana State University. I'm currently
working with Dr. Piet
Martens and Dr. Dibyendu
Nandi. |

As
I
mentioned before one of my main interests is music and Colombian music
holds a special place among the types of music I love. In the
first semester of 2007 my flute professor, Karen
Leech,
asked me if I could give a talk about Colombian music in my
flute
seminar and I did. After I gave it I felt that was a very
nice
talk, nicely balanced and interesting. Karen, my professor,
liked
it very much too, so much in fact that she asked me if I could give it
again next semester for all the flute students and the public in
general. So I gave it again, and since in the process of
preparing for it I wrote the full script, I decided to put it on my
webpage.
