Exam-2 takes place on October 22, Wed, in class. The content includes: (1) eigenvalues and eigenvectors; diagnolizing matrix; analysis of normal modes of coupled systems; (2) partial and total differentials of a function with multiple independent variables, with applications in conversion between coordinates of different coordinate systems; (3) integrals with multiple variables, including line integrals and volume integrals with scalar or vector integrands, with application in curvilinear coordinate systems (spherical, cylindrical, cartesian). (4) gradient of a scalar function, work done by conservative or non-conservative force, potential of a convervative force; (5) sketching a scalar function or vector field lines. The exam is closed-book. No calculator, no book or notes. You can bring with you a 1-page self-prepared equation sheet, in addition to an equation sheet provided to you at the exam: see the equation.pdf
