I'm a second year graduate student at in the
Solar theory group at St Andrews university
in the UK. I spent the summer of 2006 at Montana State
University on the Solar REU Program
working with Prof. Piet Martens,
Dr. Dibyendu Nandi.
We have been applying a simple time delay model to study solar and stellar dynamos. Many long term variations in the magnetic field of the Sun and other stars are thought to be the result of a magnetohydrodynamic dynamo operating within the stars' interior. During the REU 2005 we studied some basic properties of the model. A description can be found here . Over the summer we have been extending the analysis to include a variable meridional circulation speed. You can see some of the results in my final presentation .
