Here is a pdf file of a talk on generation of helicity in solar active regions that I gave at the International conference held in ARIES, Nainital in April 2005.

At present (5th June - 25th July, 2005) I am visiting the Solar physics group at Montana State University, Bozeman, U.S.A. While there I spent my time on late-type stars (other than the sun) which are known to have a magnetic cycle. It's an interesting problem that would give us a broader picture of the stellar dynamos. Here lies a pdf file of my presentation on that work. Comments, suggestions and questions are welcome.

Other interests....

I have been a disciple under the school of the late doyen of Odissi, Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra for more than 15 years. Odissi is a form a Indian classical dance known for it's graceful and sensuous movements and usage of extensive footwork. While in Mumbai, India I was associated with the dance troupe 'Smitalay' managed and directed by Guru Jhelum Paranjape. On this site you may also read a very touching account of the life of the late Guru Sanjukta Panigrahi who succumbed to cancer in the June of 1997. As an aside...the word 'Guru' in sanskrit means the destroyer of darkness or provider of knowledge. This word marks a disciple's respect for his/her teacher in the Indian socio-cultural setup. More about this art form here.

I also pursue fabric painting as a hobby. I often like using lots of colours in my work. But my dear friend Murthy feels that they look suspiciously like little green men from Mars!
Besides I love teaching mathematics to my younger sister.
