SOLAR PHYSICS REU 2005

email: sarah.lakatos@villanova.edu
My name is Sarah Lakatos and I am a senior Astronomy major at Villanova University in PA. This summer I am at MSU working with Piet Martens and Dibyendu Nandi on a project called "Modeling of Stellar Magnetic Activity Inferred Through Ca H+K emission". I am gathering activity data for stars that are similar to the sun, but have varying ages.  I have composed a chart that has many different stars as well as their different characteristics such as, rotation period, age, dynamo period, Rossby number, ect.  I then made graphs relating the different properties in the chart. For example the rotation period vs. age, and dynamo cycle period vs. age, as well as the Rossby number and convective turnover time.  Here are a few example graphs:

As well as research this summer, we have also done many weekend trips and activities. A few of them are below as well as a couple pictures. If you would like to see more pictures click on the link underneath the title.
