My name is Ying Zhu. I am currently a senior student at Carroll College of Helena, MT.  I am majoring in mathematics with a physics minor. This summer I have been fortunate enough to work with Dr. David Mckenzie and Adria Updike through the 2005 Solar REU Program in Montana State University, Bozeman. In this project, part of a larger NASA-funded study, we modeled the magnetic fields of ejection progenitor structures, and the Sun as a whole, and seek for a correlation between these models and the strength of the resulting "space weather."
This ten-week program has been a great research experience in my academic life. Besides achieving a lot from involving a real world research problem, I am also more clear about my  future goal - getting into the research area! And also, it's always been a great pleasure to work with Dr. David Mckenzie and my collaborator Adria Updike. We had fun together. Of course, being in Bozeman is one of the best choices for the summer.
