Japanese uses three kind of character sets.
- Hiragana(ひらがな)-- Most basic character set. Phonograms.
- Katakana(カタカナ)-- Used for words adopted from freign languages.
Phonograms.
- Kanji(漢字)-- Imported from China (A.C. ~300). Idiograms.

In this lesson, we will concentrate to Katakana characters
with the following reasons.
- used for freign words, so you can cut the step of translation.
- limited to noun.(cf: Hiraganas are often used in combination with Kanji.)

Group B: accent on the second letter

Group C: flat
ナルカゲ (Narukage), イシバシ (Ishibashi)
Three(3) steps to understand Katakana words.
- Look in the Katakana chart, and identify each character of the word.
- Figure out how they are pronounced, and actually sound out the word.
- From the sound you made, guess the English word from which the word come.
