Consideration on the YLA color tables

04-Apr-2011, Aki Takeda.

1. Traditional Red

The IDL standard color table No.3 has been used historically. It is the most accepted color by the community as Yohkoh/SXT images. However, Loren pointed out recently, that it is hard for people with color blindness to see the structures with this color table.

2. Initial Yellow color table

In order to increase the universal visibility, The No.3 CT was modified by increasing the brightness of green for the low brightness range. The red and blue arrays are kept the same as before. This color table gives better contrast for the faint structures. Howver, I recently noticed that the contrast of the bright structures (e.g., AR cores) are receded.

3, New Yellow color tables

Consideration to regain the better contrast for the bright structures.
