These 5 images are from consecutive days, showing the filament prior to eruption.

These images show the magnetic field for 5 consecutive days. The last one is around the time of the filament eruption, so you can see the black of the filament has significantly reduced in size. I would like to be able to make a continuous movie of these images, but it takes a lot of effort to produce thse, and there are only a few h-alpha images taken each day. It looks as though between images 2 and 3 it is possible to see some fairly obvious flux cancellation towards the bottom of the inverted s-shape. Interestingly enough the filament never seems to connect up fully before it erupts.
