Abstract:
The Extreme-Ultraviolet Snapshot Imaging Spectrograph (ESIS) sounding rocket was launched for the first time on September 30th, 2019 from White Sands Missile Range. ESIS captures images in four slitless spectrograph channels, each with a unique dispersion direction. Images from each channel can be combined, and inverted, to measure spectral line profiles over its entire octagonal field of view (11.5 arcminute) at every exposure. During the 2019 launch, ESIS observed the evolution of dozens of small eruptive events, in the O V 630 angstrom spectral line, at a ten second cadence.
The recently proposed ESIS II will be expanded to six channels, and target the Ne VII 465 A and Si XII 500 A spectral lines formed at 0.5 MK and 3 MK respectively. For the second launch we will target an active region with the aim of measuring transient velocities at active region foot points and along connected loops that can be used to constrain loop heating models.
