Abstract:

We present the first results from a treasury project with the Hubble Space Telescope, which is observing a large sample of stellar flares with near-ultraviolet spectra and optical photometry. We give an overview of the treasury project goals from astrobiology to flare physics. We will show results from spectral analyses of a giant flare, which challenges the standard theoretical treatment of electron beam transport from the corona to the chromosphere. Potential connections to IRIS spectra of solar flares will be discussed.
