This tool is a simplified implementation of the LMXB-D probability calculator based on the results of the study: Abdulghani et. al. 2024. It can be used to obtain quick estimates for the distance of a newly discovered BH-LMXB if the spectral information of the soft state is determined. If this quick estimation tool or the LMXB-D probability calculator was useful in your research, please cite our paper.
To implement this quick tool, a number of assumptions were made (based on the expectation values of the distributions used in Abdulghani et. al. 2024):
Equation (3) in Abdulghani et. al. 2024 is then used to calculate the distance using the ezdiskbb normalizations provided. Since only the soft state spectral information is used, distance values obtained from Equation (3) are increased by 70% and errors are estimated to be 50% of the increased values. For more details on the reason behind these particular percentages please refer to Abdulghani et. al. 2024.
