In week three, I used code from Dr. Qiu to identifying flaring pixels in the maps I had created for the solar events studied in weeks 1 and 2. I spent a lot of time breaking and fixing it to truly understand how it worked. I created light curve plots of X-ray flux versus time for each event, as well as a pixel chart of flaring pixels versus time. Both plots can be seen below for the October 1, 2011 event. I attended a stellar atmosphere lecture from Dr. Kankleborg and a Magnetic Reconnection lecture from Dr. Qiu. We also went to Yellowstone National Park at the end of the week! In week 4, I generated HMI magnetograms for the October 1, 2011 event and attempted to extrapolate the subsequent data.
The data plotted for the October 11, 2011 solar flare event.
