After more than 16 years of successful operations, the RHESSI spacecraft is now planned to be decommissioned on October 1 of this year. The on-board receiver has been slowly degrading since 2017, and commanding from the ground has become increasingly difficult to the point where we have not had a successful command since mid-July. We will continue to try to establish contact, but success is very unlikely. The spacecraft has no further scheduled transmissions and is programmed to automatically decommission itself on October 1.
Because of the communication difficulty, the detectors have not been turned back on following the sixth anneal, which started on April 12. Observations ended on April 11 at 01:50 UT and the last flare in the RHESSI catalog was a B5 on March 3. We have already started implementing the Mission Archive Plan as described in the latest RHESSI Senior Review Proposal
(http://hesperia.gsfc.nasa.gov/senior_review/2017/senior_review_proposal_201…).
For the next few years, RHESSI data products will continue to be accessible on the usual servers. In the future, the archive will be available through the Solar Data Analysis Center (SDAC).

It appears inevitable that the RHESSI spacecraft will be
decommissioned on October 1 of this year. The Max Millennium
program is supported by the RHESSI PI team, with NASA funding for
RHESSI operations, which will end on this date.
In the near term, the Max Millennium team will continue to carry out
all current functions: the Message of the Day, the Solar Physics
E-Print Archive, Max Millennium News, the MMscience, MMmotd,
and RHESSI_Data_Analysis mailing lists and archives, and all other
functions of the Max Millennium website at Montana State University:
<http://solar.physics.montana.edu/max_millennium/>.
The Max Millennium program, and the solar activity observing
community as a whole, has long benefitted from the generosity of the
volunteer Max Millennium Chief Observers. All current MM_COs have
expressed their desire to continue in that role: Shaun Bloomfield
(Northumbria University), Ying Li (Purple Mountain Observatory and
Montana State University), Bill Marquette (Hello Research), Aoife
McCloskey (Trinity College Dublin), and Ryan Milligan (University
of Glasgow).
The last two decades have resoundingly demonstrated the value of
multi-mission and multi-observatory coordination of solar activity
and space weather observations. Powerful new facilities have come on
line recently, and others will come in the next few years. Many of
them have high-resolution and limited field of view, which motivate
coordinated observation. We in the Max Millennium program will
solicit support for continuing such coordination in the future.
