Solar Physics at MSU

The MSU Solar Physics group is one of the world's most prominent producers of information about the Sun. With collaborations and partnerships around the world, the group studies many facets of the sun from its surface and chromosphere to solar wind and space weather around it.

The sun is the main source of energy in the solar system and is crucial for the existence of life on Earth. The variability and activity of this star influence our climate and space environment. Understanding these variations is essential to distinguish natural and man-made causes of global climate change and important for protecting our technologies in space and on Earth.

The Solar Physics group engages in a wide variety of projects, including undergraduate and graduate education, public outreach, and solar research.
