HOME WEEK 1 WEEK 2 WEEK 3 WEEK 4 WEEK 5 WEEK 6 WEEK 7 WEEK 8 WEEK 9 WEEK 10
This week started off with our "vacation" for Independence Day, and I will admit that amidst hikes and fireworks and communal meals, progress has been slow even in the face of midterms at the end of the week. I'm kicking myself into gear, now, by working on my midterm presentation and trying to figure out a workaround for my timing problems.
Unfortunately, those efforts might be in vain anyway. The main issue is not the differing timesteps—that could theoretically be fixed, in a pinch, with a tiny bit of mathematics! The real problem that I'm running into is that I've been basing my RHESSI data processing off of a start time and duration that often, it seems, begins too late; i.e. there's not enough time at the beginning to watch the flare actually develop. I don't see an easy way around this; I just don't have enough RHESSI frames. As it is, I can overplot what I do have processed onto the AIA maps, but I'd rather avoid giving an incomplete picture if I can. I will ask Dr. Qiu about this. I won't be able to reprocess all of the flares before midterms, but I can pick and choose a couple of examples—I wouldn't be able to show them all anyway!
A belated update! The day immediately before and the day of midterms were mainly spent preparing for my presentation. I showed a couple of animations alongside descriptions of 10 of my events. The presentation is accessible here.
