What is there before a flare? View all project descriptions by submitter

Hugh Hudson Submitted: 06-Feb-2008 09:18

The high-resolution data from Hinode make a renewed search for preflare structures interesting. With Yohkoh resolution, it was found that flare loops were normally not visible in soft X-rays prior to the event. We propose to carry out a new search of this type, taking advantage of RHESSI and SOT data for footpoint location, XRT for loop structure, and EIS data for preflare loop temperature/density estimations. The main reason for this study is that the preflare state may provide physical clues to causation.
