Footpoint separation of conjugate hard X-ray sources View all project descriptions by submitter

Markus J. Aschwanden Submitted: 06-Aug-2002 17:19

In the standard magnetic reconnection model of Carmichael-Sturrock-Hirayama-Kopp-Pneuman-Tsuneta, the coronal X-point is expected to rise during a flare. This increase in the cusp altitude implies a magnetic footpoint connectivity with progressing footpoint separation. Using the forward-fitting method, the source centroids of footpoints can be traced with super-resolution. We plan to test the CSHKPT model statistically in a number of RHESSI observed flares.
