Do two guns really produce two different bullets?

Cane and Richardson took the first step in this field by associating CMEs with documented LASCO events. We are taking their data a step further by attempting to associate these CMEs with a time and location on the Sun and document if they came from a filament, sigmoid or neither. We then hope to find a difference in the magnetic clouds produced by sigmoids and those produced by filaments. In order to do this we must obtain a larger and more equal list of events to study. We need to take these events and re-evaluate our results with the addition of the new data.

At a later time and date, we also hope to test if the strength of the magnetic field can be linked to the rate of CME acceleration and determine if there is a relationship between the inclination of a sigmoid and that of its magnetic cloud. Currently we are in the first year of a three year study. Hopefully, we will be able to successfully carry out all of our stated goals.
