Dear Collaborators,
Solar activity has turned to very low since the last message. The GOES X-ray flux (long band) background is around the B4 level for the last several hours.
The trailing region of NOAA 14087 retains sunspots with both polarities, but they do not share the same penumbra anymore. NOAA 14087 produced several high-B to low-C class flares in the past 24 hours with the largest being a C1.1 flare at 22:37 UT yesterday (5/16). The region from the Northeast limb has given a number as NOAA 14089, and is producing a few high-B flares.
At this time, we will discontinue the Major Flare Watch campaign, but the default target continues to be on NOAA 14087 because of the better flare history than NOAA 14089 in the past 24 hours.
The position of the target in NOAA 14087 on 17-May-2025 at 15:00 UT is: N17E20 (-323, 314").
