Dear Collaborators,
Solar activity is currently at a low-to-moderate level. The coronal loops of NOAA 12838 have fully rotated out of view over the North West limb and so the Major Flare Watch comes to an end. The small region that emerged yesterday in the North East quadrant has now been numbered as NOAA 12839 (and designated as a beta/C-type sunspot group), but has been flare-quiet for more than 24 hours since a C1.3 flare on 4-Jul-2021 at 07:52 UT. NOAA regions 12835 and 12836 both decayed over the past 24 hours, with 12835 newly designated as a beta/D-type group and 12836 losing its spots to be classified as plage. Despite having no sunspots, the plage that was NOAA 12836 becomes the target region because it produced the largest flare of the period (a C1.7 flare on 5-Jul-2021 at 18:37 UT). Larger field-of-view observations may wish to also include part of the nearby NOAA 12835 due to it retaining its spots. Additional low C-class activity is possible in the following 24-hour period.
