Solar activity is at a moderate level. NOAA 11944 remains the largest
and most complex region on disk, displaying a beta-gamma-delta/F-type
sunspot group classification. This region has maintained both sunspot
area and number of spots since yesterday's message, but only produced
low C-class flares over the past 24 hours. The MM003 Major Flare Watch
will continue for another 24 hours, as 11944 retains the potential for
additional flaring above the M5 level.

Dear RHESSI Collaborators,
The level of solar activity is high. NOAA 11944 has grown in spot
area over the past 24 hours, while maintaining number of spots and
a beta-gamma-delta/F-type sunspot group classification. Since the
MM#003 Major Flare Watch was initiated yesterday, NOAA 11944 was
the source of an X1.2 flare on 7-Jan-2014 at 18:04 UT. The Major
Flare Watch will continue for at least another 24 hours, as 11944
retains the potential for additional flaring above the M5 level.

be the largest and most complex region on the visible disk, displaying
a beta-gamma-delta/F-type sunspot group configuration. This region has
maintained both spot area and number of spots over the past 24 hours,
producing low C-class flares and an M7.2 on 7-Jan-2014 at 10:07 UT. At
this time we are implementing a MM#003 Major Flare Watch, as 11944 has
produced a flare above M5 and retains the capacity to produce further
major flares.

Dear RHESSI Collaborators,
The level of solar activity is low. NOAA region 11944 has maintained
a beta-gamma-delta/F-type sunspot group classification over the past
24 hours. This region has also maintained spot area coverage through
several smaller spots coalescing into larger, more mature spots. NOAA
11944 produced 3 C-class flares since yesterday's message (the largest
being a C7.1 on 6-Jan-2014 at 00:08 UT). However, the X-ray background
and flare magnitude/frequency is generally decreasing. Further C-class
activity is expected over the next 24 hours, with a reasonable chance
for a mid M-class flare and a small chance for an X-class flare.

MM#009 Default HESSI Target
Dear RHESSI Collaborators,
The largest event in the past 24 hours was an M4.0
at 01/04/19:46 UT. The primary location of the flare
was in the trailing spotless plage of NOAA 1943 which
is adjacent to the leading opposite polarity portion of
NOAA 1944. There was likely an interaction between
the two regions. 1944 also brightened during the event.
1944 increased its magnetic complexity adding a delta
configuration located in the trailing sunspots. The region
is now classified F-type/beta-gamma-delta. M-class
activity likely with the chance of an event =/>M5 in
the next 24 hours.

MM#009 Default HESSI Target
Dear RHESSI Collaborators,
NOAA 1944 was the source of numerous C-class events and
two minor M-class events in the past 24 hours. The largest
event was an M1.3 at 01/04/10:25 UT. 1944 is currently one
of the largest regions of Solar Cycle 24. The large leader
sunspot is significantly decayed in magnetic complexity but
mixed polarities are located within the intermediate and trailing
portions of the F-type/beta-gamma sunspot group. Additional
low-level M-class activity expected with the chance of an
event =/>M5 in the next 24 hours.

Dear RHESSI Collaborators,
Target region NOAA 1944 was the source of numerous
C-class events and two low-level M-class events in the
past 24 hours. 1944 has decayed somewhat losing its
magnetic delta configuration that was located within the
northern portion of the large leading sunspot but 1944
remains a large F-type/beta-gamma region. M-class
events likely in the next 24 hours.

MM#009 Default HESSI Target
Dear RHESSI Collaborators,
NOAA 1936, S16W59, produced a surprise major
M9.9 event at 01/01/18:52 UT. 1936 was displaying signs
of decay before the M9 event and the region has continued
to decay losing significant sunspot count and area and
magnetic complexity following the M9 event. Target region
now numbered NOAA 1944 is a very large and magnetically
complex E-type/beta/gamma-delta region but only managed to produce an
isolated M1.7 and a C9.5 today. It is likely that
1944 will produce M-class activity with the chance of a =/>M5 event.

MM#009 Default HESSI Target
Dear RHESSI Collaborators,
Former target region NOAA 1936, S16W46, produced a significant
M6.4 event at 12/31/21:58 UT. The region developed a small
but strong delta configuration yesterday. 1936 has
decayed somewhat since the M6 event but it still could produce
another M-class event. The east limb target region has now
partially rotated over the southeastern limb displaying a large
leader sunspot with a few intermediate sunspots following it.
The region is too close to the limb to ascertain its magnetic
configuration but it appears that it has mixed polarities. It is
currently the brightest plage on the visible disk. C-class events
expected with an M-class event likely in the next 24 hours.

MM#009 Default HESSI Target
Dear RHESSI Collaborators,
Target region NOAA 1936, S16W29, is mostly unchanged.
1936 was the source of minor C-class activity since the
last message. There remains a chance that 1936 could
produce an isolated M-class event but a new region located
beyond the southeastern limb was the source of a limb
occulted C8.8 event at 12/31/11:50 UT. There is currently
a large post-flare loop prominence system visible
on the southeast limb. The target will switch to the new east
limb target today. Additional limb activity is possible in
the next 24 - 48 hours.
The approximate position of the target on Dec. 31 at 15:30UT is:
S10E90 (Solar X = -961", Solar Y = -169")
