Solar activity has elevated to a high level since the last message due to the activities from the Northeast limb. The region rotated from the Northeast limb was assigned the number, NOAA 14513. This region produced more than 10 flares above C class in the past 24 hours including 3 M class events. While the first two M-class flares (M1.0 at 18:24 UT on 8/19 and M1.9 at 7:31 UT on 8/20) were originated from the leading sunspots, the third event (M8.3 at 11:31 UT today) erupted from the trailing portion closer to the limb.
Yesterday's target, NOAA 14507, retains the magnetic configuration of a beta-gamma-delta type and produced several C class events. The largest was a C6.1 at 12:33 UT, but will undergo limb transit in the next 24 hours.
Today we will switch the target to NOAA 14513 to implement the Major Flare Watch campaign on this region. The target will be the area of trailing sunspots where the M8.3 event was initiated. Additional C to M class events are expected in the next 24 hours with the chance of an event larger than M5.
The position of the target in NOAA 14513 on 20-August-2026 at 16:00 UT is: N04E75 (-915", 45").
