while the subjects may not seem to be concerned with coronal loops they discuss the magnetic interface between the corona and chromosphere including loop structures.

At last I'm glad I am on the loops mailing list. It was especially interesting to see your "explanation" paper because of its appeal to cool threads. At meetings now, when I meet them, I always am asking the coronal spectroscopists what the minimum coronal density is (never get answers, of course) with the idea that coronal heating might not be pervasive.
My hunch about the explanation, though, is different - I think one has to deal with neutrals not just via diffusion, but also by anisotropic conductivity as in the ionosphere.
